The INASLA Inclusive Excellence Scholarship is provided for students who are pursuing an education in the field of landscape architecture. Scholarship is in the amount of $1,500 and is awarded for tuition, books, project supplies, etc. Scholarship may vary from year to year depending on the funds available. Payments will be made directly to the student. *Only one INASLA scholarship will be awarded per awardee. The Inclusive Excellence Scholarship aims to foster diversity and inclusion within the landscape architecture community by providing financial assistance to students from underrepresented backgrounds who demonstrate exceptional academic performance and a commitment to advancing inclusive practices in the field.
Goals
1. Foster diversity and inclusion: The primary goal of the scholarship is to foster diversity and inclusion within the landscape architecture community. This involves financial assistance to students from underrepresented backgrounds committed to advancing inclusive practices in the field.
2. Supporting underrepresented students: The scholarship aims to support students belonging to historically underrepresented groups, including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), LGBTQ+ individuals, individuals with disabilities, and first-generation college students. By providing financial support, the scholarship aims to remove barriers to education and career advancement for these students.
Scholarship Criteria
1. Pay attention to the application requirements. Failure to submit required items or meet one of the requirements will result in automatic disqualification for award. (We recommend having a friend, family member, or faculty member review submission.)
2. Eligible candidates should belong to historically underrepresented groups, including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), LGBTQ+ individuals, individuals with disabilities, and first-generation college students.
3. Applicants must be enrolled in a degree-granting, accredited landscape architecture program in the State of Indiana (Purdue University or Ball State University) and an ASLA member (Student, Full, Associate or Affiliate). Award is for use during the 2026/2027 academic year. Prior award recipients may reapply.
4. Applicants must provide verification from the college/university that they are currently enrolled. A letter from the head of the program or a scan of their current student ID is acceptable verification. (*Distribution of award will occur during the 2026/2027 academic year and verification of fall enrollment will be required.)
5. Applicants must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a GPA scale of 4.0 or equivalent for all courses taken to date at the college or university.
6. All decisions made by the INASLA Executive Committee are deemed final, including the option not to award a scholarship.

Application Requirements
Submit the below application information to INASLA Scholarship Committee at office@inasla.org. The subject line of the email should read, “INASLA Inclusive Excellence Scholarship 2026/2027”.
1. A brief cover letter (400 word maximum) outlining:
a. Why you are requesting this scholarship, and
b. Why you chose Landscape Architecture as your field of study, and
c. A statement highlighting your efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in the profession.
2. At least one letter of recommendation from a faculty or professional mentor supporting your efforts to advance diversity and inclusion.
3. An 8 ½” x 11” or 11” x 17” PDF portfolio (10mb maximum) of your student work to-date. The portfolio shall consist of a cover and a combination of images, text, sketches, etc. as appropriate to represent your work and approach to Landscape Architecture with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion. (Take the time to not exceed limits.)
4. A copy of your current transcript. (This must be ‘official’ and not a screen shot or pdf print.)
5. A scan of your current student ID card or a letter from the head of your program verifying that you are currently enrolled in a degree-granting, accredited Landscape Architecture program in the State of Indiana.
6. Optional: Additional information reflecting your passions or interests (e.g. photography, sketching, botany, travel, philanthropy, etc.).
