Duration
This position is funded for up to 780 total hours.
Duties:
To provide technical design and planning assistance for Great Lakes Restoration Initiative projects performed by the NPS Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program. There will be an initial focus on the Grand Calumet River Area of Concern in Northwest Indiana, with the potential for project development and collaboration in other Areas of Concern across the Great Lakes. This position will work remotely with likely travel to Indiana and other Great Lakes states for site visits and workshops tied to specific projects.
The enrollee is a project team member providing landscape design and/or technical planning assistance and coordination on cooperative conservation and outdoor recreation planning projects working with government agencies, non-profit organizations, tribes and community groups. Such as but not limited to: conceptual trail planning, river access, water trail development, park planning/design. 50%
This position will be responsible for preparing written and graphic materials and designs to communicate with public and professional audiences and may include writing, mapping, and graphics. The enrollee will communicate frequently with representatives of public agencies and non-profit organizations in the community and at local, state and national forums. 30%
The enrollee will assist in organizing and conducting planning/design workshops and events and facilitates meetings both in-person and virtually for audiences with a wide range of subject knowledge and experience. This will include developing and implementing methods for substantively involving the interested public in the planning process, with diverse engagement of community interests. 20%
Required Experience/Skills: Qualifications:
Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in community planning and/or landscape architecture, project management and public engagement. OR MA/MS Degree in Planning; Landscape Architecture; Geography; Other related fields with minimum additional experience of 10 year(s) in Landscape Architecture or Planning
Knowledge of outdoor recreation or community planning and design with experience at facilitation, partnership development, community outreach and engagement, project planning and management.
Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat
Adobe Creative Suite and/or other landscape design rendering software
Other:
Overnight travel: May require infrequent overnight travel depending on residence of enrollee; roughly 2-3 nights every few months
Air travel anticipated: May require infrequent air travel depending on residence of enrollee; roughly once every few months
Required Safety Gear: Personal Protection Equipment related to invasive plant and insects, UV and tick protection. Adherence to COVID Prevention and Best Practices
Physical requirements: Enrollee should be able to walk short distances of up to a mile along unimproved surfaces. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
