Claire Bennett Video Nearing Completion

INASLA in partnership with the Cultural Landscape Committee of Indiana Landmarks is developing a short video tribute to Claire Bennett, a trailblazer landscape architect in Indiana. The video celebrates her landscape architecture legacy and contributions to ASLA, the profession and the community.

Among Claire's many achievements:

  • President of INASLA, 1978

  • Named a Fellow of ASLA, 1984

  • ASLA National President, 1990-1991 (third woman to hold the position and first to do so while raising a family).

  • Harvard Alumni Association Award, 1996

  • President of Claire Bennett Associates, 1974-1997

In 2003, INASLA inaugurated the "Claire Bennett Legacy Award" to recognize individuals in the chapter who embody Claire's ideals of service and leadership.

The video will be about 13 minutes long and is being produced by staff of WFYI, the Indianapolis public broadcasting station. A rough version was screened at INASLA's Annual Meeting in September. Final editing is taking place now with completion scheduled by the end of the year. A screening event will be planned for early in 2019.

Fundraising to cover production costs of $11,000 is taking place now. We are close but not quite there. Please consider donating in any amount to this wonderful tribute to Claire and documentation of her life and work. Donations can be sent to:

Indiana Landmarks
1201 Central Avenue
Indianapolis, IN 46202

Checks should be made to "Indiana Landmarks" with "Claire Bennett video" written on the memo line.

Or - Donations will be collected at the INASLA Holiday Reception on December 5.

Incidentally, Claire is planning to attend.
