Title: Active Transportation Intern/Co-Cop Student/Graduate Assistant

Job Description: The intern, co-op student, or graduate assistant will be employed part-time for up to eight months through either their university or Health by Design. The position will assist the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), Division of Outdoor Recreation; the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), Division of Planning, Modeling and Traffic Counting; and the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity in their efforts to support the Next Level Trails program and related statewide active transportation initiatives shared by the three state agencies. The intern, co-op student, or graduate assistant will work primarily under the daily guidance and supervision of IDNR staff and will attend meetings and events as appropriate.
• Research best practices for active transportation efforts supporting the work of the three state agencies and Health by Design.
• Support the efforts of IDNR with the Next Level Trails (NLT) funding program. This work may include assisting with informational workshops for potential grantees, monitoring the NLT e-mail account, assisting staff with processing grant applications, corresponding with applicants on information and feedback, tracking program metrics, occasional site visits, assisting staff with administering ongoing grant activities and other supporting efforts as required.
• Participate in ongoing meetings between the state agencies and Health by Design to plan and implement various work items relating to shared active transportation initiatives.
• Assist in the evaluation of various active transportation initiatives including evaluating the results of a statewide survey of communities in Indiana regarding technical assistance needs.
• Assist in research and analysis of statewide bicycle and pedestrian crash data along with assisting with the production of a report documenting the results of the analysis. Provide support in mapping and analyzing the locations and concentration of bicycle and pedestrian crashes in Indiana.

Compensation: Compensation is up to $10,000 for the employment period.
